Proventia Emission Control, which is part of the environmental technology group Proventia Group, has been awarded the Internationalization Award of the President of the Republic, in Helsinki on 14 February 2008. The internationalization award is granted as recognition of important activities in an international operating environment that benefit the Finnish economy and business. The grounds for the award emphasize the recipient's activities in the international operating environment and the company's ability to develop and apply new operating approaches. The award presented at the Presidential Palace by Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, was received by Jari Lotvonen, President of Emission Control, Arno Amberla, Technology Director, and Lauri Antila, President of Proventia Group.
Proventia Emission Control has its roots in Finnkatalyt, a company founded in 1994 to develop solutions for exhaust gas purification. Since its establishment, the company has operated on the international market and exports have always accounted for a considerable part of its net sales. In the early 2000s, the emission problems resulting from traffic in major Asian cities and the need of those cities to equip their existing vehicles with purifiers had a strong impact on the company's rapid internationalization.
In the autumn of 2007, the name Finnkatalyt, a company owned by Proventia Group, was changed to Proventia Emission Control. In addition to retrofitting projects, the company supplies emission control solutions to, for example, the leading manufacturers of work machinery and mining machines and to large power plants.
In 2007 exports of Proventia Emission Control accounted for more than 90% of its net sales. Proventia Emission Control has 30 employees in Finland, Switzerland and Asia. By networking both in product development and production, Proventia Emission Control has been able to meet growing demand both quickly and profitably. Proventia Emission Control products are based on the company's own versatile technological know-how and the expertise of its international partners. 'We co-operate closely, for example, with VTT [Technical Research Centre of Finland] in technological testing, and we've also managed to find excellent international partners both for product development and production, which has enabled our rapid growth,' President Jari Lotvonen notes. 'Because we're a relatively small operator in our business, we've been able to adapt to local operating environments quickly and flexibly, which has been a great asset. Our international expansion has been promoted by the credibility and resources of our parent company Proventia Group and a network of leading specialists in the sector,' Lotvonen continues.
'Future prospects in the sector are promising. In addition to Asia, many major European cities have begun to restrict the growth of traffic emissions in their city centres. Also, the emission regulations for new work machinery come into effect in the next few years so that the after-treatment of exhaust gases in work machines will be practically compulsory by 2014. The restrictions on nitrogen oxides are also becoming stricter, which creates a new rapidly growing market', says Lauri Antila, President of Proventia Group.
Proventia Emission Control is based in Oulunsalo at the Proventia Technology Centre, which also accommodates a newly finished state-of-the-art engine and emission laboratory. The company's power plant business is located in the Winterthur office in Switzerland.
