Proventia's operations in the US boosted by President Obama's greener environmental policy

Proventia has founded a daughter company Proventia Americas LLC in Minneapolis in the USA. Markku Hakkarainen has taken up the post of CEO of Proventia Americas. Previously he has led Proventia's operations in the US from Finland. The demand for Proventia's emission control solutions has rapidly grown within the last few months thanks to the new greener administration in the USA.

Proventia's exhaust filters for Transport Refrigeration Units (TRUs) mounted on trucks have acted as a market opener in the US. "The Proventia's filter is the most cost-effective method for making TRUs compliant with low emission regulations. After many years of product development we received the CARB (California Air Resources Board) approval for the filter already in 2007 and the sales have been growing ever since," reveals Markku Hakkarainen, the CEO of Proventia Americas.

In January 2009 California received a waiver from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that allows the state to impose strict emission standards to all the TRU engines on the road in California and even those travelling from outside the state. The standards consider about 40,000 trucks. Once fully implemented in 2014, the regulation will eliminate 2,000 tons of diesel particulate matter emitted into California's air. "Barack Obama's election as the President of the USA and his significantly stricter emission policy has without doubt boosted the demand and opened us new possibilities in the US market," Hakkarainen continues.

"In summer 2008 Proventia made a strategic decision to invest strongly in the development of our US business. Besides the TRU filters we have new products especially designed for the US market that are currently going through the CARB approval process. New regulations and the right that Obama's administration has given to the states to set their own emissions standards are strongly supporting our strategic policy," states Lauri Antila, the CEO of the Proventia Group.
